We are seeking a part-time or full-time Registered Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our 4-doctor general practice.

This position requires a practical knowledge of hospital organization and services, the basic rules and regulations governing visitors and animals, patient treatment, data entry, word processing, basic mathematics, and a general knowledge of the standards, procedures, veterinary records and medical terminology used within the hospital.
Our ideal candidate will complete multiple duties in the realm of animal care and treatment, customer services and hospital cleanliness, all with the goal of increasing productivity and ensuring that optimum care is given to our patients and clients.
Skills and Knowledge
Knowledge of hospital procedures and operating instructions for making appointments, assembling, establishing patient medical records, relaying information regarding patient's condition, and compiling and submitting data on patients treated.
Knowledge of the spelling and meaning of commonly used terminology of veterinary medicine for accurate medical record keeping.
Ability to obtain a thorough medical history from clients and effectively relay it to the doctor.
Major Duties (General Overview)
General Patient Care and Handling – proper patient restraint; vaccine preparation and protocol; acquiring TPR's; administering intravenous, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections; venipuncture; I.V. catheter placement; assisting in inventory maintenance; administering subcutaneous fluids; using and troubleshooting I.V. pumps; maintaining a high standard of patient care; assisting other technicians/assistants and doctors as deemed necessary.
Radiography – properly positioning for needed views with minimal assistance
Laboratory – preparing fecal, blood, urine, slides, cultures and histopathology samples for outside laboratories; preparing blood, urine, skin scraping, skin cytology and ear samples for in-house evaluation; accurately obtain in-house laboratory results including chemistries, CBC's, Urinalysis, PCV's using IDEXX Diagnostic in-house equipment; maintaining all in-house diagnostic equipment; documenting laboratory results in our software.
Surgery and Monitoring – sterilization of surgical equipment; surgical patient monitoring during anesthesia and recovery; assistance of technician/assistant and/or DVM during major surgical procedures; intubation; induction; extubation; accurate record keeping of all pertinent information (times, injection quantities, etc).
Dentistry experience is a plus - perform oral exams and chart findings; scale & polish teeth; take full-mouth dental radiographs.
Personnel - offer assistance and training to other team members when necessary; discourage behaviors that may be detrimental to the positive atmosphere of the work environment; monitor compliance to job descriptions and “to do” lists; ensure adherence to policies and procedures in accordance with handbook; make recommendations to the Hospital Manager concerning personnel matters.
