Position Summary: This position will assist in very basic research data collection, data entry and sampling. The research will be involved with primarily samples from vineyards and vineyard workers.
Promote, in all ways consistent with the other responsibilities of the position, Accomplishment of the Affirmative Action goals established by the Division.
Special Conditions of Employment: Travel
Other Special Conditions of Employment: Must possess valid California Driver License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.

Duty 1: Prepare kits for sampling Collect data in seminars, interviews and in vineyards Record data during interviews Use laboratory instruments (such as digital calipers, microscope, balance) Use pathogen detection kits/methods Function:Lab and Field Research Percent: 80
Duty 2: Other duties as needed including entering data onto a computer, manipulating data in spreadsheets, or other data recording, such as transcribing interview data from survey participants. Function:Other Percent: 20
Job Requirements English language skills to follow and understand safety practices, instructions and record data. Required
Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Required
Manual dexterity skills to use delicate laboratory instruments and/or handle insects or plant material. Required
Ability to view small insects and mites Required
Ability to follow precise directions and learn lab and field data collection techniques Required
Ability to read, write, perform basic mathematical calculations Required
Ability to read, write and comprehend Spanish language to communicate survey questions to vineyard farmworkers and to transcribe interviews. Preferred
