Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Learning Support Services (LSS), the Modified Supplemental Instruction Program Coordinator will provide support for the daily implementation and overall development of the MSI program as well as provide support for the office and special projects. The MSI Program Coordinator will support the MSI program by developing and implementing special tutoring projects as well as supervising and developing MSI Learning Assistants. In partnership with the Assistant Director of Learning Support Services, the MSI Program Coordinator will establish and carry out procedures that follow University and UAW policies for over 60 Learning Assistants each quarter. The MSI Program coordinator will also be responsible for the training and supervision of student office staff and how they support the office, developing LSS' outreach efforts and developing other special projects as assigned. The MSI Program Coordinator provides logistical support for the MSI program and works in partnership with the MSI team to develop pedagogical training workshops for undergraduate tutors. The MSI Program Coordinator will support the Assistant Directors in collecting data and will represent the MSI program and LSS at different events and offices. In partnership with the Assistant Directors, the MSI Program Coordinator will develop programs, train MSI Learning Assistants to ensure that our programs work to address equity issues at UC Santa Cruz, placing emphasis on the needs of EOP, DRC and transfer students.
LSS offers small group course specific tutoring, MSI, writing tutoring, and drop-in services for all undergraduate students at UC Santa Cruz. Programs are grounded in educational theory that supports the academic development of students through these peer-led services that address and minimize educational equity issues. LSS provides academic support across all five divisions: Arts, School of Engineering, Humanities, Physical and Biological Sciences, and Social Sciences employing over 400 Peer Tutors each year and serving over 6,000 undergraduate students. LSS works closely with the Education Opportunity Program (EOP), Services to Transfer and Re-Entry Program (STARS), Disability Resource Center (DRC), Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives, and the colleges to increase the success rate of non-traditional students. LSS has a permanent operating budget of approximately $900,000, HSI funded grants currently have a budget of $1,900,000 annually.

Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Multicultural competencies, knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Experience and knowledge in training and supervising tutorial and student staff in a college setting and implementation of study skills and other academic support programs and the ability to design and conduct workshops and seminars to enhance student academic skills.
Experienced knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, effective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural / linguistic issues in applying academic support to students.
Ability to work harmoniously, cooperatively, and develop relationships with colleagues, university faculty and staff; ability to encourage others toward common and individual goals and to motivate others to follow.
