POSITION TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist: Rehab. Services / E. Dene Moore Care Center

REPORTS TO: Rehabilitation Services Director
JOB PURPOSE: To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.
BASIC FUNCTION: Diagnoses and treats speech, language and swallowing disorders and engages in scientific study of human communication. Treats disorders such as stuttering, delayed language development, speech, voice and articulation problems. Evaluates speech and language skills as related to educations, medical, social and psychological factors. Plans, directs and conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication problems of organic or nonorganic etiology. Responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, cognitive, communication, voice, swallowing, fluency, and other related disorders. Maintains records, monitors progress, and counsels patients and their family members. Communicates regularly within the department, facility, and outside affiliations. Provides services to a broad spectrum of patients which may include pediatrics, adult, inpatient, outpatient and geriatric. Caseload to include residents at E. Dene Moore Care Center patients at Grand River Clinic West and as assigned. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.
Education: Master’s Degree and ASHA certification preferred. Active Colorado license as a Speech Language Pathologist required. Must have current BLS certification upon initial employment and maintain current status throughout GRHD employment.
Experience: Prefer 2 years of working experience. Must be at least eighteen years of age. Valid Driver’s License and clean MVR record required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of and ability to assess ailments and injuries of patients and implement a treatment plan. Working knowledge of computers and computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with clinic practice management systems and electronic health records preferred. Knowledge and proper use of grammar, spelling, punctuation, document proofing and formatting and basic math skills required. Strong working knowledge of equipment common in an office environment; including but not limited to multi-line phone systems, fax machines, copy machines, etc. Exceptional interpersonal skills and communication skills required; both verbally and in writing. Skilled in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Ability to work with patients of all ages and with a wide variety of hearing and speech problems. Must be able to effectively perform modified barium swallow studies.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all protected health information as regulated by HIPAA. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with patients, coworkers, providers and members of the public. Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively. Must be able to demonstrate accuracy in processing detailed information. Ability to work effectively as an individual and as a member of a team. Must be proficient within (6) months of hire in Meditech, Cedaron, PACS, Exercise Pro, Allscripts EHR, QHN, Galactica, Micorsoft Office, Kronos, and ECI.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be subject to daily exposure and risk of blood borne pathogens, bacteria, toxic substances, body fluids, communicable diseases, equipment noise and occasionally the combative patient. Other conditions may exist which are common to the hospital patient floor environment and a clinical health care setting.
