Baylor Scott & WhiteHealth is a 636-bed specialty care teaching hospital and the only accreditedSupportive Palliative Care Unit in Central Texas Region.
What is the Supportive Care Palliative Unit:
STC -4 is a 29 bed Nursing Unit- non-telemetry located in our Special Treatment Center. There are 10 designated palliative / hospicebeds. This unit is designed for the care of the palliative/hospice carepatients with large rooms for families to be with their love ones during thisdifficult time. Working on STC-4 gives you the unique opportunity to work with Palliative/Hospiceand Acute Care patients. Working onSTC-4 as a Nurse will give you a unique opportunity to develop strong nursingskills with high acuity patients. The unit offers you the chance to develop toptier patient interaction skills by working with our hospice team and palliativecare teams. Working on STC-4 offers you not only the chance to develop and useyour clinical skills, but also the chance to find out what it means to be atrue provider of end of life care. Our nurses take pride in caring for thepatient and families. Nurses areempowered to obtain their Certified Hospice/Palliative Nurse (CHPN) within ayear of their service.
Working on STC-4, you can expectyour clinical skills to become greater than ever imagined due to the highacuity of patients and verities of scope which include:
Transfersfrom Medical Surgical units and ICU Patients requiring medication regimens(Non- telemetry)
Admissionsfrom ED (Non- telemetry)
Highlevel Pain control - PCA
Patientswith impaired respiratory status
Patientsneeding care for nutritional support
Additional Support for patients and families:
Palliative Care Team - provides a specially-trained teampalliative/Hospice physicians, Hospitalists, Social work, Comprehensive Care Managers,Chaplaincy and Child life. The team offers music therapy, pet therapy,emotional support, devotion and prayer.
Additional Support for staff:
We provide emotional andpsychological support from the Staff Well-being Assistance During DifficultLife Events (SWADDLE) program, SPC team, director, manager, supervisor,chaplains during times of high-level stress and multiple deaths by meeting withstaff members for debriefings, supportive readings, emotional support and a designatedspace on the unit for staff to relax and recharge.

Â§Associateâs Degree in Nursing (ADN) required

Â§ 12 hour shifts, must be able to work well with skilled nursing, med surg and hospice patients
Note:If you have less than 6 months of experience, we recommend that you apply to our nursing internship program. Internships are available for new graduates and experienced nurses in a variety of specialties. New classes begin in January, June, and September.
