The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for directing the hospital's Central Service Program. The Sterile Processing Supervisor maintains a consistent high standard of supplies, assure that the department will meet or exceed the JCAHO requirements and be maintained in a cost effective manner. The Sterile Processing Supervisor directs the overall activities to include labor standards and submits and monitors the department budget.
The Sterile Processing Supervisor duties include, but are not limited to:
Develops and implements departmental performance improvement activities and assures on-going staff participation.
Maintains continued education in the field of Central Service operations and equipment through education, literature and seminars. Provides instructions and in-service in new products, procedures and equipment in a manner that will identify and prevent resource loss and maintain safety.
Provides materials which contribute to better technique of patient care and assist in decreasing the spread of contamination.
Develops processing methods and supply control methods which will provide materials to patient care economically.
Provides elements for direct patient services within designated units.
Processed and/or sterilize instruments and trays for use throughout the hospital.
Monitors all sterilization processing and biological or mechanical tests and results for sterilizers throughout the hospital.
Encourages a preventative maintenance program for Central Service equipment and maintains inventory of equipment to meet patient care requirements.
Supports the Corporate Compliance Program by adhering to the Principles and Standards stated in the Corporate Code of Conduct and Code of Ethical Behavior of Baylor Scott & White Health.
The ideal candidate for Sterile Processing Supervisor will be able to provide in-service education of employees in order to assure optimal sterile technique and aseptic handling of all sterile items.
