The Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital is recruiting a Transfusion Medicine Pathologist. The Department is the exclusive provider of pathology services for the Houston Methodist Hospital System (HMHS) which has eight hospitals in the greater Houston area. HMHS currently has more than 2,200 beds and is actively expanding within the greater Houston area.
The successful candidate will assume the position of Assistant or Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine (depending on relevant experience) at Houston Methodist Hospital, our quaternary care 1000-bed flagship hospital located in the Texas Medical Center. The Transfusion Medicine Service provides advanced blood banking services, donor and therapeutic apheresis services, and blood collections. The successful candidate will join the full-time Medical Director and Associate Medical Director, and three pathologists who provide part-time blood bank service. The Transfusion Medicine Service is accredited by AABB, CAP, and FACT and is registered with the FDA. In addition to providing clinical service, our faculty educate pathology residents and a Transfusion Medicine Fellow. The Texas Medical Center has a vibrant, interactive and collegial Transfusion Medicine culture that extends across many institutions.
Interested candidates should have a proven track record of providing outstanding transfusion medicine service, working effectively with departmental colleagues and other medical staff members, laboratory technical personnel, and hospital administration. Opportunities exist for collaborative research interactions and other academic endeavors. Opportunities also exist for clinical work in additional areas of clinical pathology. Priority will be given to candidates with interest in Coagulation or another relevant area of laboratory medicine.
Candidates will be pathologists with an MD or MD/PhD, BC in clinical pathology or anatomic pathology and clinical pathology, and BC/BE in Transfusion Medicine. Except under unusual circumstances, candidates should have at least 3 years of experience practicing clinical transfusion medicine. Candidates must have or be able to obtain a Texas medical license. The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty appointment in Houston Methodist’s Institute for Academic Medicine and Weill Cornell Medical College, Houston Methodist’s primary academic affiliate.
