San Miguel Power Association, Inc. is a non-profit, locally-controlled rural electric cooperative with offices in Nucla and Ridgway, Colorado. SMPA serves approximately 9,600 members and 14,000 meters and supports local communities.

Our picturesque service territory includes all or parts of seven counties in western Colorado. See Map. San Miguel Power’s corporate office is located in Nucla, Colorado with office locations in Ridgway, Telluride, and Silverton.
This Journey Line Technician position will report to our Telluride location. Voted #1 Best Small Town to Visit in the USA (U.S. News and World Report), Telluride offers an endless array of outdoor adventures and cultural activities. Skiers flock to Telluride's slopes for more than 2,000 acres of terrain, plus ample après-ski spots and an impressive 300 inches of snow and 300 days of sun annually. Year-round, the town hosts numerous festivals and cultural events, and travelers can hike, bike and golf when the weather warms.
Minimum requirements include: A High School diploma or equivalent. Must have completed a valid four-year Apprenticeship Program recognized by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Labor. Employee must be able to read, write and evaluate situations. Demonstrates a working knowledge in distribution, transmission, and substation, underground and overhead installations, methods, and procedures. Requires working knowledge of all Regulatory Compliance, DOT and Safety Procedures. Must represent the co-op in a progressive, positive, and professional manner in all relationships, both internal and external. Must possess strong computer skills in relation to the position. Must possess a valid Class A, Colorado driver’s license. San Miguel Power has a 4-10 work schedule and offers an excellent salary and benefits package.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Requires knowledge of principles and practices in line construction service and operations and maintenance requirements in an electric distribution system; ability to read and interpret staking sheets; all RUS specifications and line construction assemblies; and the NEC and National Electric Safety Code. Requires the ability to interpret the Cooperative’s layout of electrical substation, transmission and distribution lines.Demonstrates a working knowledge of the policies and procedures of San Miguel Power Association. Requires the ability to complete certification courses offered through SMPA that are relevant to position. Understands and applies the concept of providing quality electric service to SMPA consumers and agrees to maintain a continuing commitment to superior people to people service.
