Summary: The Director, Research Center will develop andlead the department-based pediatric research program towards internationalrecognition for breakthroughs transforming clinical practice by developing,analyzing, and rapidly diffusing innovative solutions to deliver high valuecare to our patients. Practically, the Director, ResearchCenter applies extensive biology, drug, and medical device developmentexpertise to oversee cross-functional research teams that are tasked withidentifying and validating novel therapeutic targets or pure discovery, andthen translate these insights and findings to position therapeutic agents orpathophysiologic knowledge in contexts that maximally benefitpatients. As a mentor, the Director, Research Center will supportand develop the research careers of other professionals at Cook Children's whoshare the mission of the department and the overall investigational endeavorsof the Cook Children's Health Care System.
Doctorate (MD, PhD) in a biomedical discipline aligned withthe departmental orientation, medical and/or surgical specialty.
Fifteen or more years of relevant research experienceconducting clinical and/or translational science.
Proven capable of successfully obtaining and managingextramural funding (e.g., extramural grants, endowments, etc.).
Extensive publication, as senior author, of impactivescientific results in the peer-reviewed medical and/or scientificliterature.
Proven leadership among cross-disciplinary teams ofbiomedical scientists engaged in collaborative studies.
