We are seeking a Software Developer to join our dynamic team. You will work with an experienced interdisciplinary team to design/develop/maintain software systems used for treaty verification and safeguards monitoring systems. You will develop and maintain software engineering practices as our portfolio of software projects grows, as well as work closely with a team of nuclear engineers, electrical engineers, and computer engineers on system development in research and development as well as deployment phases of projects.
The Nuclear Verification Department (6831) is making the world a safer place by helping the US Government to reduce nuclear threats. We give policymakers technical options for verifying declared nuclear warheads and materials to enable effective arms control treaties and agreements. We research, develop, evaluate, and field new technologies that increase our government’s capability to verify treaties and manage nuclear materials.
Our diverse work includes technical development of radiation detectors, information barriers, sensors, tags, seals, information management and protection, and other nuclear security technologies, often with ultra-low-power requirements. Our programs are performed collaboratively with scientists and engineers in the Global Security & Cooperation Center (6800), across Sandia, with other national laboratories and sites, and internationally.

You have an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Computer Science or related computer discipline
You possess demonstrated experience writing in Java or other object-oriented languages
Your background includes proven experience writing programs in C
Your skillset includes understanding of software design patterns
You have experience with git or other software repository and version control system
You can obtain a DOE Q clearance
Ideally, your background would also include:
Experience creating GUIs in Java
Proficiency in C
Experience with relational database design, usage, and normalization
Experience with Python
Good written and oral communication skills
You hold a current DOE clearance
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.
