Stanford University is seeking an Associate Director of Finance and Administration/Administrative Services Administrator 2, to lead research administration and academic support functions under minimal supervision for the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology (MCP). This individual will provide department-wide leadership for all research and financial administration and for administrative support functions, extending from daily management of operations to pre award and post award administration. In addition, this role will provide oversight for all administrative and operations-related functions for the Center for Molecular Neuroscience in Health and Disease (CMNHD).
This person will report to the Director of Finance and Administration for MCP and is a working manager for research administration management, including overseeing all sponsored project awards and faculty financial portfolios. Manages staff to achieve the research and teaching mission, as well as specific goals and objectives of the unit. Direct, hire, and manage MCP financial and administrative staff of 5-6 employees and oversee general administration for the CMNHD, including Faculty Affairs/HR, Student Services and Lab operations roles. Partner with faculty leadership and Director of Finance and Administration on all departmental affairs, and serve as back-up to the Director of Finance and Administration.
Lead the planning and operations for functions or programs that have significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise.
Evaluate programs, policies and procedures. Identify issues, and develop alternative solutions which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.
Review and analyze trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the program or function.
Represent the program or function within the department, unit or school. Represents the program or function at the university level and/or to external constituencies.
Manage and contribute to the development of outreach strategy that may include relationship development, communications and compliance.
Develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.
Assess training needs and may develop associated training.
Direct and/or supervise staff.
Serve as backup for MCP Director of Finance and Administration.

Proactive, detail-oriented self-starter with extensive prior Stanford University (SOM) management experience and familiarity with grants management (NIH, CIRM, DOD, AHA, MDA, fellowships, etc.).
Desire minimum of 5 years to 10 years relevant experience.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
