The purpose of companies in society is changing, and Berkeley Law's Business in Society Institute (BISI) is at the forefront of research on how this change is impacting corporate governance. This position will assist BISl's founding director in:
Researching trends in environmental, social, and governance issues for curriculum development, academic publications, practitioner focused publications, and brief blog posts.
Assisting in developing curriculum for in-residence courses, online education offerings, and executive education programs
Conducting outreach to and managing relationships with key stakeholders in furtherance of building BISl's network.
Planning and administering major symposia including 'Sustainability Week' which will take place on October 7-11, 2019
Overseeing the strategy for and administration of BISI's sustainability related student opportunities
Assisting in developing Berkeley Law's first online course in corporate sustainability.
Scaling BISI's brand by developing and implementing its social media strategy.
Gathers and assembles research and data on assigned issues relating to upcoming conferences and symposia, prepares brief memos or reports and/or analyses summarizing information on the assigned issues
Using subject matter knowledge in corporate sustainability, conducts research and synthesizes information for use in courses, symposia, discussions, and meetings with key constituents.
Prepares, edits and modifies publications, programs, agenda, and presentations for conferences, events, and executive education programs.
Assists in designing and creating project management processes to support the growth of BISI's portfolio of initiatives, including:
Student Programs: The Sustainability Field Placement Program, the 1L Summer sustainability Internship, and other initiatives.
Curriculum: BISI is leading the development of curriculum at the intersection of law and corporate sustainability.
Conferences: BISI holds and participates in a series of conferences on corporate sustainability around the world.
Case Study Series: BISI is launching a new program featuring corporate sustainability leaders at companies in case studies that will serve as an example for other companies.
Creating timelines and tracking deliverables for major initiatives.
Editing and designing presentations and publications.
Managing and overseeing social media outreach.
May oversee undergraduate student assistants.
Knowledge of emerging trends in sustainability and corporate responsibility.
Demonstrated passion for working with inside counsel to advance sustainability at their companies.
Working knowledge of the Google suite, WordPress and lnDesign.
Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
Solid ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
Working skills to analyze information and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Legal Studies, Business Administration or a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Masters degree in Law degree with coursework focused on corporate sustainability preferred.
Salary & Benefits This is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay will be commensurate with experience, within the range of $28.00 - $30.00.

Other Information This is a 1-year, temporary (Contract) appointment, working 40-hours per week. This position will offer full benefits, including, but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, vacation accrual, sick leave accrual and participation in UC Retirement Plan.
