The Substation Technician is stationed at OTEC’s headquarters in Baker City, Oregon and is responsible for the inspection, operation, construction and maintenance of the Cooperative’s 25 substations, and electrical line apparatus. Install, maintain, and operate transformers, regulators, load tap changers, circuit breakers, circuit switchers, reclosers, relays, capacitors, SCADA communications equipment, battery banks and chargers.
Perform testing on substation apparatus such as relay testing and commissioning, transformer turns ratio, megger insulation, battery load testing, oil sampling, and other analytical tests as assigned.
Operate substation equipment, including switching and grounding.
Inspect electrical facilities for conformance with specifications and safety standards.
Perform relay panel wiring.
Install substation conduit systems, ground grids, and fencing.
Perform work in a safe manner in conformance with all applicable regulations.
SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS
Successful completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship program
Two years of work experience with high-voltage substations
Possession of IBEW card within 30 days of assignment
High school diploma or equivalent
Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license, CDL preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Accuracy, timeliness, the willingness to promote member satisfaction
Ability to work independently and with others
Occasionally work long hours during emergency conditions
Be responsible for cooperative tools, test equipment, and vehicles.
Ability to use heavy tools, materials, and/or equipment
Some strenuous lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, etc.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, and computers
