Position Summary: This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital. The Exercise Specialist , under the supervision of the manager, prepares patients by providing specific instructions, setting up exam room, and monitoring status, while assuring a safe patient care environment. Demonstrates a good working knowledge of exam requirements, and maintains the department in a clean and orderly fashion. Communicates appropriate patient information while providing exceptional patient care. Assures adequate stock of supplies and performs clerical duties. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS through American Heart Association required.
B. Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare related field, preferred in exercise science.
C. Experience: Prior experience in a patient care setting preferred.
D. Special Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate with patients using auditory Input and Output.
Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Director and leadership. Care supervision performed by the delegating midlevel. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Work performance is reviewed by peers and leadership.
Ages of Patients Served: This position requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of patients and families. Personnel in this position must recognize and respond to the behaviors of patients and families in each age category. The employee must be able to demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and their families according to standards. (The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.)
