The Colton Joint Unified School District serves the educational needs of approximately 23,000 students, grades TK-12 as well as adult education. It includes 18 elementary schools, four middle schools, three comprehensive high schools, one alternative school, one continuation high school and a preschool center.
CJUSD covers an area of 48 square miles of mostly San Bernardino County in Inland Southern California and includes all or parts of seven different cities. Its population is approximately 82 percent Hispanic, eight percent white, six percent African American and less than two percent Asian. About 26 percent of students are English Learners and roughly 80 percent qualify for free and reduced price meals.
CJUSD leadership places a high value on community involvement and collaboration between employee groups. It is a 2014 recipient of a San Bernardino County Vision Award for its efforts to partner with government and industry to provide opportunities for its students. Key district initiatives include literacy, digital equity and being future ready.
