Position Description: Under the direction of the Fleet & Transit (F&T) Director, the General Manager (GM) of Fleet & Transit Operations is responsible for the successful development, implementation, and management of all elements of the service-oriented BruinBus, Transit and Vehicle Technical Operations programs. The BruinBus transit program includes operation of scheduled fixed-route buses open to the public, demand-responsive van service, and charter vehicle service using over-the-road motor coaches, transit buses, cutaway buses, standard passenger vans, and automobiles. Vehicle Technical Operations includes campus vehicle maintenance and repair for heavy and light duty vehicles, related vehicle support functions (including parts inventory, fuel management, and accident administration), and related facility and equipment management.
The GM manages business units according to the strategic vision set by Fleet & Transit Administration. The incumbent must be able to articulate and champion that vision to their staff, and achieve associated short and long-term goals and business objectives. The incumbent is focused on operations and service delivery, and must have a strong working knowledge of industry state-of-the-practice in disciplines including, but not limited to, service planning, customer relations management, vehicle scheduling, real-time transit route-level schedule adherence management, fleet management, supply chain processes, customer communications technology, alternative fuel engines, and reducing environmental impacts. Close coordination is required with the F&T Strategy and Business Analysis business unit which conducts ongoing analyses of the effectiveness and efficiency of campus fleet and transit programs.
The GM also ensures data integrity related to key performance indicators and leverages data for compliance and resource optimization purposes. The incumbent is accountable for a $6.3M annual operating budget, as well as maintaining and executing a capital plan to replace transit rolling stock, modernize vehicle fueling and maintenance infrastructure, and implement necessary telematics equipment. Being on-call round-the-clock is required.
The GM is accountable for adherence to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding commercial driver and technician safety and training.
