Rachel Carson College at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for Lecturer positions in its non-core undergraduate courses, especially in the area of Sustainability Studies and Science. The theme of the College is Environment and Society (see http://rachelcarson.ucsc.edu/) and most of these classes focus on one aspect or another of social and ecological sustainability, from the social science, natural science, and engineering perspectives. These courses are interactive, involving both classroom instruction and hands-on experiential learning.
The ideal candidate will have both instructional and occupational experience in relevant fields and areas, be willing to work with and mentor enthusiastic and dedicated students and student groups, and be committed to increasing diversity in the Green Economy. The successful candidates must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications, experience, and number of course units taught per quarter.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree; or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years professional and/or teaching experience in areas related to Sustainability Studies and Science such as renewable energy policy, regulation, and technology; urban agriculture and permaculture; water issues and conservation; household consumption and practices; green building and landscape design; and urban transportation planning.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Business and research experience a plus.
