The Director of Emergency Services provides overall managerial direction and leadership for the clinical operations and coordinated activities of the Emergency department. Assumes the responsibility for promoting and maintaining an atmosphere conducive to positive physician, staff, and patient relations and performs the functions of a professional leader in assessing, planning, budgeting, implementing and evaluating services provided in these departments. Ensures accountability for administrative responsibilities that include staffing, leading, morale, customer satisfaction, quality patient care, organizing and role modeling for nursing services. Has responsibility for processing and resolving complaints related to patient care services and other administrative and nursing duties as necessary. Serves in an Administrative role as the Stroke Coordinator for the Stroke Ready program. Provides administrative support to the physician leader of the Stroke Ready program. Represents the Hospital at the county CVEMSA quarterly Stroke Advisory Council, serving as a liaison with the local Emergency Medical System (EMS) in developing, implementing, and evaluating pre-hospital care stroke related services. Collaborates with the local EMS agency to provide educational opportunities biannually. Serves as the hospital and county coordinator for Disaster Management. Collaborates with the Quality Director for data collection, aggregation, benchmarking, analysis, and action planning to improve performance, when indicated.
Ability to operate at the leadership level possessing prior experience in the acute care setting. Knowledge of current AHA guidelines for Stroke Ready program management. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence change. Possesses strong customer service skills and the ability to prioritize effectively while working with diverse cultures. Analytical and continuous evaluation skills for all clinical and non-clinical services with an aim to improve the quality and continuity of patient care. Demonstrates the ability to cooperate effectively with hospital leadership, medical staff, and other departments, as well as with nursing staff and peers.
