Salary Range: CSU Salary Range: $3,093 - $5,433 per month (Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,093 $4,700 per month)
NOTE: This position is Friday-Monday, 4:00am to 2:30pm
Facilities Operations is a part of Facilities Management and Development (FMD) and is a unit within the Administration and Finance Division. Facilities Operations is responsible for the physical and environmental campus maintenance of buildings, roads, parking lots, lighting, utility transports, sidewalks, waterways, and landscaping. Facilities Operations - Custodial Services is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for over two million square feet of space.
The purpose of the Light Automotive Equipment Operator (LAEO) is to operate medium size trucks, ride on floor cleaning equipment, and use other tools and techniques to clean, strip, wax, and polish floors; occasionally perform custodial duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to one year of experience operating of a delivery vehicle, truck, tractor, bus, or automotive maintenance equipment.
Licenses, Certificates, Credentials:
Possession of or the ability to obtain by date of hire a valid Class C California Driver's License.
Certification of good driving record from Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), which may be checked periodically with the DMV.
Knowledge of the rules of safe driving and the provisions of the State of California Vehicle Code pertaining to operation of vehicles described in the appropriate classification; and State of California General Industrial Safety orders related to the assigned tasks of the classification.
Ability to operate assigned equipment safely; and recognize safety hazards and follow practices and laws to insure safety; follow manuals and guidelines pertaining to operation of State vehicles; and load and unload vehicles correctly and safely.
Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
Working knowledge of standard custodial/housekeeping methods, procedures and practices including safe work practices and the use and care of custodial supplies and equipment.
Working knowledge of carpet care and extractors.
Working knowledge of floor care techniques and practices.
Knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and hazardous materials and ability to interpret material safety data sheets (MSDS).
Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism including showing respect for room occupant's privacy and property when entering occupied areas.
Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures.
Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
Ability to safety move up to 50 pounds on a routine basis.
Ability to stoop bend and kneel on a regular basis.
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
This position classification has been defined as non-exempt and is subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.
