The Police Sergeant plans work schedules and patrol strategies; advises and trains employees; evaluates and manages department resources; inspects and evaluates the work of subordinates; directs field operations; responds to and directs the investigation of criminal activity; develops and implements staff projects as requested; and facilitates clear and positive communications between subordinates, management and the community. Must be willing and able to work overtime.Maintain a valid California driver's license and be enrolled into the Department of Motor Vehicles Employer Pull Notice (EPN) Program Notification system.Must complete a P.O.S.T Supervisory course within twelve-months of appointment.External (Non-UCI employees) candidates will be required to pass a thorough background investigation including medical, physical, and psychological examinations. External candidates hired as a Police Sergeant shall serve a one year probationary period.Internal UCPD candidates promoted to Police Sergeant shall serve a six-month probationary period in the new class, exclusive of time on paid or unpaid leave.
