The Utilities Engineer, under direction, Provides day to day support to plant operations and maintenance for utility production and distribution.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
Five years of experience in design, maintenance or operation of electrical power systems.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Must have a valid Texas Class âœCâ Driverâ™s License or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Ability to obtain EIT Certification within 1 year.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiar with principles involved in electrical distribution systems, SCADA, relaying & controls, medium voltage equipment and medium voltage testing, and system modeling.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Other Requirements or Other Factors:
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods of time, and will frequently be required to lift or move heavy materials.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Academic emphasis in power distribution and control systems.
More than two years of professional level experience in an electrical utility, engineering/consulting, or industrial plant operation.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
Professional Engineer certificate.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiar with principles involved in ETAP.
Studies, evaluates, and recommends equipment replacements and capital improvements. Defines proposal project scopes and coordinates design and implementation of projects. This may require driving a university vehicle to meetings at various locations on or off campus, as well as to travel to satellite plants around campus. Evaluates overall plant and individual unit performance and efficiencies. Performs system studies and analysis of the distribution system for evaluation of performance and recommends modifications.
Provides technical support for engineering related issues in the entire Utilities Division. Areas of involvement include electricity production/distribution and high voltage electric power.
Maintains the system protective relaying database and system model.
Coordinates plant and system drawings update and maintenance with GIS
Reviews and recommends improvements to operational and maintenance procedures.
Under the direction supervision of the Senior Utilities Engineer or the Manager for Distribution Services, assists with the preparation of plans and specifications for small in-house renovation and equipment / systems upgrade projects.
Recommends need for, creates proposed scopes, and coordinates with professional engineering services consultants.
Oversees the work of Assistant Utility Engineer.
Performs other duties as assigned.
