Job Summary/Basic Function: General Description: The purpose of this position is to perform custodial maintenance tasks in a team cleaning environment. Be a positive representative for Custodial Services and Lamar University, by presenting a professional image in maintaining a clean, safe and comfortable learning environment for students, faculty, staff and administrators. This is accomplished by sweeping, mopping, dusting and vacuuming classrooms, offices, halls, restrooms, windows, corridors, and other public areas, reporting security and maintenance issue in the buildings. Other duties include restocking supplies, picking up/removing trash, and performing other related duties as assigned. This position is flexible. Duty hours and work locations may vary based upon the needs of the university. Overtime may be required with little or no notice.
Essential Job Functions: Work in all University buildings, offices, facilities and labs performing general cleaning according to schedule, instructions, and team cleaning procedures. Perform hard floor care and stripping and refinishing procedures, and carpet cleaning procedures using commercial custodial equipment. Perform general cleaning tasks, mop, dust, clean and restock restrooms. Secure buildings and rooms on schedule and/or after cleaning. Follow correct unlocking and locking procedures. Follow key control and access card procedures. Adhere to prescribed safety and custodial procedures. Perform set ups for special events. Provide emergency response and clean up for floods and other custodial emergencies. Fill in as required for other team members as required. Report any emergency or urgent building repairs to Facilities Maintenance Dispatch or Lamar Police Department as required. Identify and report security violations or criminal activity to campus police.
Minimum Qualifications: Working Conditions: Any required personal protection equipment will be furnished. Employee may be required to work in adverse weather conditions. Working environment could be around bio-hazards to include raw sewage, chemicals and/or fumes. Employee may be required to work around electrical and mechanical hazards. The use of manual dexterity is required in climbing stairs, ladders, lifting and moving. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. may be required. Employee must have the ability to distinguish colors. The use of personal protective equipment may be required. Employee must have the ability to walk up to 5 miles a day.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: More than six months experience in any of the following fields: custodial, environmental services, hospitality, warehouse, production or facilities maintenance. Demonstrated ability to communicate with supervisors and peer group in a timely and effective manner. Experience using industrial-sized custodial equipment. Ability to read and understand work orders, written instructions, product labels and instructions, and other written job materials. Demonstrated ability and willingness to be an effective team member.
