Responsible for providing business services to Associated Students administration, A.S. enterprises, and the student-run campus newspaper, The Guardian. The Business Analyst manages all financial and administrative functions of the self-supporting newspaper and A.S. Enterprises with collective budgets in excess of 900,000. Additionally provides business office support to A.S. admin and student orgs as needed.
Responsibilities include the hiring, training, and supervision of more than 30 student staff. Develops and maintains annual marketing plans, office procedures and policies, authorizes all invoices for payment of copyright fees, cash reconciliation, accounts receivable, campus recharges, advertising, customer relations, ordering and maintaining equipment, processing payroll time sheets. Responsible for newspaper circulation of 10,000+ issues on a biweekly basis to readers on and of the UCSD campus. Provides equipment and facility management, negotiates and manages vendor agreements.
Maintains exceptional customer service standards and communications with campus departments. Utilizing various data (surveys, quarterly statistics, revenue, etc.) to develop short, mid and long-term business, marketing & advertising and pricing strategies (working with the A.S. Commissioner for Enterprises). Prepares year-end course and revenue statistical reports, analyzes market share and other special projects for use on both long range planning and developing growth plans. Uses professional concepts to apply organization policies and procedures to oversee a variety of ongoing administrative operational issues. Administers defined operational program. Analyzes and resolves operational problems of moderate scope.

Strong fiscal/accounting experience, including accounts receivable and accounts payable, with proven ability to analyze, interpret, and summarize financial data.
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and processes related to payroll, purchasing, invoices, and travel.
Demonstrated proficiency of University cash handling procedures and cash register operations.
Proven experience in the principles and practices of fiscal planning analysis and financial operating data to determine revenue & costs to ensure cost effectiveness. Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate procedures.
Proven success in creating and enforcing accounting and cashiering systems and policies in a customer-service, revenue-generating environment; experience conducting compliance and procedural reviews; strong knowledge of internal controls, auditable procedures, secure information and transactions (i.e., fiscal controls, cash controls, high-risk transactions), etc.
Advanced writing skills to clearly and effectively draft and edit complex and detailed messages, reports, contracts, and agreements. ability to initiate, compose, edit, and compile correspondence and complex reports; ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources.
Supervisory skills and ability to provide close supervision to undergraduate employees with limited job knowledge and experience; includes ability to plan, schedule, and direct work assignments for student workers.
Knowledge of sales and marketing principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
