The Pediatric Pharmacology Laboratory specializes in clinical pharmacology; quantitative measurement of medications from infants, children, pregnant women and adults, along with pharmacometric modeling of such data. The SRA III will be primarily leading development, validation, and implementation of LC-MS/MS assays for the quantitative measurement of small molecule therapeutics in biological matrices.
Further tasks are as follows: Will be responsible for research and development directed toward high complexity assays, protocols and platforms, in collaboration with others on projects. Writes and reviews protocols, SOP's, specifications, and methods. Maintains familiarity with current scientific literature and contributes to the process of a project in the field of Clinical Pharmacology. Works independently in designing and conducting high complexity experiments.
Under general supervision, helps guide the work of the laboratory, including the lab assistants, and provides technical advice and guidance for laboratory staff regarding troubleshooting methods, techniques and validation. Train and assist graduate students, interns, and post doctoral fellow on various research projects. Presents research data in domestic and international scientific conferences and contribute to scientific journals.
Advanced theoretical knowledge of chemistry and biochemistry and applicable scientific theory and concepts as typically attained by a Bachelor's Degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of a LC-MS/MS instrument (Applied BiosystemsAPI-4000); analysis, processing and interpretation of research data, derive conclusions and make recommendations.
Experience in the development and validation of methods and writing and reviewing SOP's, specifications, and protocols. Ability to report and communicate scientific results (papers, conferences and patents etc.).
Advanced technical competence in analytical chemistry, sample preparation, including SPE, chromatography, HPLC, tandem mass spectrometry, and immunoassays.
Experience with independent research design and protocol development theory, methods, concepts and techniques. Proficient to independently address scientific challenges and to move a project forward.
Demonstrated experience in data recording, data analysis, interpretation, diagnosis, and documentation preparation.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with staff, sponsors, consultants, and technical support personnel in person and on phone.
Knowledge of safe handling of hazardous materials including chemicals, radiation and biological agents, in compliance with UCSD guidelines.
Knowledge of applicable University, federal, and state laws, rules, regulations, policies, related accreditation and certification requirements.
Experience in the operation of a liquid scintillation counter; design of and analysis of protein- binding experiments using tritiated or C-14, using equilibration exchange techniques.
