The Research Scientist, under general supervision, designs, performs, and analyzes experiments. Mentors students on analyzing and preparing data results. The Research Scientist will also assist in maintenance and operation of the research laboratory in the Undergraduate Medical Academy.
Design experiments to coincide with lectures in Chemistry.
Develop laboratory assignments that are consistent with lecture to amplify the material learned during lecture.
Write grant proposals for research funding.
Contribute to the development of research protocols to be used for grant proposals. 5. Develop manuscripts for publication in peer review journals.
Manage overall operations of research laboratory.
Order and maintain inventories of laboratory supplies, instruments and basic equipment, interact with vendors and oversee purchasing.
Provides training and supervision of staff and student workers. Adheres to safety standards associated with the lab and chemicals.
The operation of standard equipment in laboratory.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in an applicable field.
Six years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Chemistry or related fields.
Six years of related experience with a minimum of three years relevant professional experience in laboratory operation and management; demonstrating experience in conducting successful chemical or related-field research.
Experience working with students in the proper use of laboratory equipment and conduct of research.
Experience teaching undergraduates general chemistry or closely related subjects.
Evidence of published research in a refereed journal.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of appropriate laboratory and technical equipment. Knowledge of statistical analyses and statistical analyses software. Knowledge of research in practical and/or basic sciences and scientific publications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to present information clearly and concisely. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently once given a project.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiar with bioinformatic and statistical software; knowledge of standard microbiological practices and assays protocols.
AED - American Red Cross Certification.
