Under general supervision, serve as the Assistant Scenic Artist, as that term is commonly understood in theatre industry, for the Department of Theatre and Dance, for all productions and programs produced or presented by in the Mandell Weiss Center for the Performing Arts and all other facilities utilized by the department. Have a general knowledge of traditional scenic paint treatments and techniques.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the UCSD production management team. Paints scenic elements for more complex theatrical productions and on occasion, provide work direction to work-study students.
Must be amenable to a fluctuating work schedule. Some weekend and evening work required.
Proven experience in theatrical scenic painting and production, organization, and management including professional experience.
Experience in complex scenic art techniques and their related technology. Thorough knowledge of painting media, their properties, and application.
Knowledge in the use of painting tools: Hudson sprayers, airless sprayers, projectors, pain frame, etc.
Demonstrated experience in researching costs of paints and associated products.
Skill and ability to effectively interact with a wide range of people; students, faculty, professional directors, designers, and stage managers, and the general community.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly disseminate information.
Excellent skills in interpreting designs, drawings, and written communication with the ability to accurately interpret them.
Ability to meet demanding production schedules and accommodate changing priorities for both an academic and professional production season.
Demonstrated experience in adherence to OSHA safety standards.
Must have a valid California driver's license with a clean driving record.
