The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting a faculty member in Radiation Oncology with a primary focus on proton beam radiotherapy for prostate and ocular malignancies. Successful candidates will have interest and expertise in particle beam therapy across the spectrum of solid tumors and enthusiasm to work in a large academic practice. Clinical focus areas include prostate cancer, ocular melanoma and other tumors, and work with the disease-site and multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to clinical program growth as well as educational, scientific and outreach efforts relating to these programs. Academic rank (Assistant and Associate Professor) for this full-time position will be commensurate with the candidate's skills and experience. The successful applicant must have an MD or a DO, or foreign equivalent, and be board certified or eligible in Radiation Oncology. For candidates who are ABR board eligible, provided she/he becomes board certified within two years of taking the position, will be considered. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) Proton Therapy Center is located on the campus of UW Medicine Northwest Medical Center in the Northgate section of Seattle and is fully staffed by UW Department of Radiation Oncology faculty physicians. It is the sole Proton Center in the Pacific Northwest and therefore a tertiary referral site for the entire 5-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) region. Ample availability of UW physics faculty and research coordinator support at the SCCA Proton Center, in addition to a rich patient data registry, and numerous prospective clinical trials provide fertile ground for clinical research. Additionally, collaborative opportunities with UW faculty radiobiologists and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center faculty and a first-in-class small animal proton irradiator facility to provide support for pre-clinical and translational research in particle beam therapy. Further technical capabilities of the Radiation Oncology Department include 7 Elekta linear accelerators, IMRT, VMAT and SBRT capability, Gammaknife radiosurgery with the Perfexion ICON system for multi-fraction SRT; 4 CT simulators, direct access to MRI and PET/CT based planning; Pinnacle, CMS, Raystation, in-house planning systems, MIM platforms in both Radiation Oncology and Radiology, LDR brachytherapy, IORT, intravascular brachytherapy, respiratory gating, C-RAD and Calypso beacon localization. We also have an active Neutron Therapy program which further broadens the technical capabilities and therapy options.

The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,600 patients yearly from a multi-state region (WWAMI) covering over 25% of the U.S. geographic area. The University of Washington has the only Radiation Oncology Department in North America that has clinical particle beam delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy.

The Department has 23 physicians, 5 advanced practice providers, 18 physics and 4 research faculty, who engage in active multi-disciplinary clinical and basic research.
