Under the direction of the Director of TRIO Student Support Services, this full time (12 month) position will have counseling and advising responsibility for Washington State University's TRIO Student Support Services Program. The counselor will be responsible for implementing systems and methods for student programs and services; advising and counseling of students in an effort to increase retention, academic achievement and graduation rates of the students served. The person selected will employ strategic methods through advising assistance, academic support, counseling, mentoring, financial literacy, career counseling and cultural enrichment to assist students in reaching their academic goals. In addition, the counselor will oversee the SSS peer-tutoring program in instruct a UNIV class. This position requires good oral and written communication skills; excellent record keeping, and the ability to apply best practice methods to obtain measurable results.
Student Support Services is a program that is funded by the U. S. Department of Education Title IV under the Higher Education Act 1965 to assist Low-Income, First Generation and/or Disabled Students achieve a college education. Preference will be given to applicants with backgrounds similar to participants. This position is renewable based on the life cycle of federal funding.

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year?for?year basis.
