Join Harborview Medical Center for an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director of ARNPs and PAs (Healthcare Specialists, HCSs) for the inpatient hospital units and the Emergency Department. The Assistant Director works with the Assistant Administrator overseeing the day to day operations of the inpatient and ED HCSs. In addition the Assistant Director will have some ongoing clinical responsibilities in their area of specialty. The Assistant Director will function as a working leader, providing direct supervision for the HCSs on the inpatient and emergency department services. The Assistant Director will work with nursing managers, physicians and leadership from other divisions and departments. Management:
Oversee day-to-day operations of the healthcare specialists working on the inpatient services.
Provide direct supervision to healthcare specialists both administratively and clinically, depending on the area of expertise.
Assist in planning, developing, organizing, and evaluating the role of the inpatient Healthcare Specialist and the emergency department Healthcare Specialist.
Assist in maintaining appropriate information systems for healthcare specialists.
Ensure compliance with all nurse practitioner and physician assistant, laws, licensing and regulations, including Joint Commission Standards, and National Patient Safety goals.
Ensure that policies and procedures are updated and followed in coordination with other management team members.
Participate in medical quality assurance programs
Maintain effective communication with the administrative staff of Harborview Medical Center - Medical Director, Executive Director and Senior Hospital Administrators as well as the Office of Medical Staff Appointments
Effectively work with the Manager of the out-patient Healthcare Specialists, to coordinate consistent practices across both inpatient and outpatient services.
Provide management reports as required by the Assistant Administrator.
Serve as a member of committees as assigned.
Assume other responsibilities in the management of the In-patient Healthcare Specialists as delegated by the Assistant Administrator. Financial:
Understand the healthcare specialist financials including but not limited to maintaining appropriate FTEs per departmentsPersonnel:
Assist in the recruitment, interview and hiring process for the inpatient healthcare specialists and assist with the out-patient interviewing of prospective candidates.
Complete performance reviews and evaluation of healthcare specialists on the inpatient service, soliciting feedback from attending physicians and peers
Manage the assignment of inpatient preceptors for advanced practice students, maintain open communication with our graduate school partners
Conduct personnel performance reviews for assigned staff.
Ensure staff development, new employee orientation, and training in coordination with the other HCS departments and divisions
Ensure appropriate staffing of healthcare specialists on the inpatient units where HCS are deployed
Ensure accuracy of time capture and leave records, in coordination with payroll coordinator.

Help maintain the HCS intranet site with information relevant to both inpatient and outpatient providers
Participate in relevant ARNP or PA organizations
Act as advocate for healthcare specialists both in the hospital and when involved, in community activities.
