The Utilities Instrumentation Technician, under general supervision, performs highly skilled technical work in the maintenance, inspection, adjustment, calibration and repair of pneumatic and electronic control system equipment.
Required Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three years of related experience in instrumentation maintenance in an industrial plant, chemical plant, or utility plant, or completion of an apprenticeship/assistantship program in utility plant operations.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Must have a valid Texas Class âœCâ Driverâ™s License or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to read and comprehend written and oral instructions in English and communicate effectively.
Ability to read and troubleshoot plant control systems using P&ID drawings.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Training from a military, accredited institution, or graduation from an apprenticeship program on boilers, turbines, steam, energy, power, heat transfer and power plant instrumentation, and control and monitoring systems.
Experience in distribution process control, supervisory control and data acquisition and double effect absorption chillers.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
ISA CCST Level 1 Certificate
Maintains documentation of all repairs, calibrations, control points, and alarm and trip points of each piece of equipment.
Adjusts, calibrates, and tunes equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance duties for all systems.
Troubleshoots all instrumentation and control systems. This may require driving a University vehicle to utility satellite plants.
Assists in the overhaul of gas and steam turbine generators, boilers, absorption and centrifugal chillers, pumps, motors, and other equipment.
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods of time, and will frequently be required to lift or move heavy materials.
Contributes to a safe work environment by reporting accidents and unsafe working conditions, uses proper personal protective equipment, follows safety procedures outlined in Material Safety Data Sheets, and participates in safety training.
