Founded in 1961, the Department of Chemical Engineering was initially an outgrowth of the university's Department of Chemistry. Early faculty pioneered or substantially influenced the emerging field of chemical engineering in a number of important areas including catalysis and transport/fluid mechanics. More recently, the department has added bioengineering and soft-material science to its core areas of excellence and has made a growing commitment to technology development that complements its long-held strength in fundamental applied science and molecular engineering. The Department of Chemical Engineering has an immediate opening for a Student Services Officer 2. Administering an area or program in student services, evaluating and recommending decisions on program eligibility. Reviewing decisions recommended by other staff.
Collaborating with others to help resolve program issues and concerns, interpreting policies, and mediating complex and sensitive issues.
Resolving multi-dimensional matters in response to students in crisis, at risk, or who have other program-related issues, counseling students and parents on sensitive and confidential issues.
Providing guidance and counsel, overseeing and developing a wide range of programs and services, analyzing effectiveness and making recommendations for future programs.
Reconciling complex issues; analyzing diverse transactions from multiple sources.
Summarizing data from multiple sources, preparing management reports and presentations.
Identifying and evaluating data needs, managing the implementation and development of technology.
Developing and implementing plans for outreach efforts, developing and maintaining external community and university liaison, representing department and university at meetings and events.
Providing advice to students on a range of issues, including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, career plans, accessibility, community standards, etc., in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions.
Apprising students of research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities, making recommendations and possibly awarding grants.
Serving as a subject matter expert to other departments; representing unit/department.
Leading, creating and contributing to development of business practices and participating in organizational change to improve processes and workflow.
Possibly overseeing, analyzing and assisting in financial processes and development of budgets.
Serving as a key member of university wide teams and projects.
Possibly training and supervising other staff, volunteers and temporary workers.

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
Advanced analysis and problem solving skills.
Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Advanced customer service skills.
Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
Understanding of financial transactions.
Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
