Charles Wright Academy is an independent coeducational day school offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts. Founded in 1957, the school enrolls 680 students in grades junior kindergarten through twelve. We are located in a suburban neighborhood southwest of Tacoma, approximately 1 mile from Puget Sound and within the shadow of Mt. Rainier.

Summary: This is a full-time, one-year faculty appointment for the 2018-2019 academic year. The teacher will teach science to all Lower School students once per week. Additionally, the teacher will provide technology instruction, coordinated with the technology department, to a portion of the Lower School students. This position could also be a 75% faculty appointment teaching only elementary science.
Responsibilities: • Implements a science curriculum, which is appropriate to the grade and developmental level of the students. • Collaborates with homeroom teachers to develop science experiences that support grade-level curricula. • Collaborates with homeroom teachers and the technology department to implement computer experiences that support grade-level curricula. • Provides a variety of learning opportunities, methods and materials, with a strong emphasis on inquiry based learning and hands on experiences for the students. • Encourages the growth of moral character. • Imparts enthusiasm for science and technology to students and inspires students to participate fully in the learning process. • Provides and maintains a stimulating, safe environment. • Practices thoughtful, respectful, and effective classroom management techniques which support active learning and promote responsibility and self-management. • Supports positive student behavior for all of the Lower School students throughout the school day. • Attends all faculty and community meetings. • Participates fully in the life of the school.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education or science; a master’s degree is preferred. A passion for science, an ability to develop interesting lessons, a sense of humor, the ability to work cooperatively with peers, and a passion for working with young children are essential.
