Performs patient monitoring, assessment, and documentation activities. Documents care. Provides information to patient through approved patient education materials.
Performs basic ophthalmic testing procedures, assessments, and tasks delegated by the eye care provider. Performs additional testing, procedures, and assessments. Calibrates equipment. Administers dilation and anesthetic drops.
Mentors staff on testing based on presenting symptoms or diagnosis. Maintains the sterile field. Assists with minor procedures. Under direction of provider, assists with prescription refill process.
Cleans and stocks rooms. Cleans dirty instruments and transports contaminated instruments and equipment to the Sterile Processing Department. Transports patients.
Ophthalmic Vocational training or completion of 2-year sponsored training on the job
3 years' health care related experience.
COA, COT or COMT within 1 year of hire.
BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)
Preferred Qualifications- 5 years as Certified Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician.
