Responsible for the direction and management of the organization's Magnet Program. Works in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Magnet Steering Committee to establish a vision for nursing excellence grounded in a theoretical nursing framework. Program direction and management includes sustaining institutional Magnet designation by activities, structures and processes that promote an optimal work environment for professional nurses and interprofessional members, resulting in outstanding patient care outcomes. An understanding of the required standards and performance improvement strategies will be required. Strategies include assessment of workflow-related processes, research, criteria development, measurement, and evaluation.
MSN and doctoral preparation preferred
Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing experience required.
Three years as a clinical nurse in a leadership role or with project coordination experience.
Previous experience in Magnet hospital preferred.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado.
Current CPR required.

Transformational Leadership - 20 %:
Develops a comprehensive project plan and timeline to achieve established program goals. Develops, implements, maintains, and monitors all aspects of the program and sets the strategic direction for the program. Conducts gap analysis to track vulnerabilities and strengths to facilitate strategic planning. Writes and assists with the preparation of the Magnet document, including oversight of the writing of others. Assumes responsibility for coordinating all aspects of the ANCC Magnet application, interim monitoring reports and redesignation process. Facilitates Magnet Steering Committee and sub teams to ensure goal setting and action planning to achieve goal outcomes. Collaborates with all levels of hospital leadership to plan and implement activities to sustain the Magnet environment. Collaboratively plans, implements and executes annual Magnet celebrations. Partners with departments of marketing and human resources to promote nurse and hospital recognition. Collaborates and assists with activities for annual Nurses' Week recognition, including oversight of Nursing Daisy Award program.
Structural Empowerment - 20%:
Maintains current knowledge of Magnet redesignation requirements and processes, assists and oversees ongoing incorporation of new requirements into professional standards and practice. Facilitates necessary changes in collaboration with nursing leadership. Develops Magnet educationalmaterials and presentations for the hospital and community at large. Drives the growth of nursing professionalism by promoting activities to encourage nurses to obtain higher nursing academic degrees, specialty certification, and to participate in national professional organizations. Works closely with nursing leadership and shared governance councils in the implementation of strategies to improve nurse sensitive indicators, assisting with analyzing data and the PI processes that support nursing practice. Mentors nurses as teachers, preceptors, and adjunct faculty. Functions as the Survey Coordinator for the RN survey conducted by NDNQI. Develops methodologies for attaining Standards of Care, Standards of Professional Performance and advancement of the nursing profession.
Exemplary Professional Practice - 20 %:
Provides administrative and analytical support to the CNO based on understanding the requirements of Magnet, analysis of internal monitors and benchmarking, assessment and evaluation of clinical outcomes and leadership to achieve Magnet redesignation. Analyzes nurse sensitive indicator data in comparison to established benchmarks and takes leadership role in dissemination and development of corrective action plans with appropriate stakeholders. Works closely with the quality and safety leaders in developing, implementing and evaluating innovative patient safety programs making sure all levels of nursing staff are involved in the process. Accountable for oversight of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). Executes the NDNQI RN survey planning and administration, analysis and evaluation. In collaboration with nursing management and leadership, develops short and long term strategies to address deficits.
Assists interprofessional staff with data analysis and action plan implementation. Creates custom detailed reports for every department and presents data to stakeholders.
New Knowledge and Innovation - 10 %:
Promotes evidence based practices (EBP) and implementation of best practices. Uses benchmarking for evaluating changes and improvements. Works in collaboration with the nurse scientist and EBP, Research and Innovation Council to assure staff participation in innovation, research, and EBP throughout the organization. Drives initiatives and projects throughout the organization intended to help nurses demonstrate excellence, such as writing for publication, submitting of abstracts to external venues, and presenting at local, regional and national conferences.
Patient Experience – 20%
Oversees and promotes patient experience throughout the organization by providing administrative direction to ensure patient experience exceeds expectations. Coordinates and assists with the development of a service excellence strategy and defines tactics to support the effective implementation of a culture of service excellence. Provides administrative and data analysis and support related to the patient experience survey results. Assists with action plans for patient and customer service experience surveys using evidence based strategies.
Professionalism - 10 %
Advances professional nursing practice by providing administrative direction to strengthen and sustain shared leadership. Involvement in mentoring and succession planning of clinical nurses. Participates in hospital-wide committees to provide nursing representation, consultation, and involvement in the development of hospital-wide programs affecting professional nursing. Ensures that all associates are part of the Magnet process and encourages associate participation in assisting the Magnet champion team. Role models and supports a positive image of nursing within the organization.
