Primary Purpose: Under the direction of the Director of Public Safety, performs various supervisory, management, and patrol duties related to the Security mission for the properties, employees, students, patients, and visitors of the School of Dentistry.
Essential Functions: 1. Perform tasks or provide supervision of those portions of the daily security operation as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.
2. Function as the Director in the Directors absence.
3. Provide first point of contact for corporals.
4. Perform patrol duties in the absence of other security officers.
5. Supervise corporals and patrol officers to ensure department standards are met. Participate with the Director in officer performance appraisals and reviews.
6. Monitor and maintain selected security training sessions.
7. Analyze security systems reports to ensure management programs are effective.
8. Review preliminary and follow-up incident investigations to ensure adherence to department procedures.
9. Review and assess information from daily reports.
10. Perform all other duties as directed by the Director of Public Safety.
Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of: 1. Physical security devices and computerized security systems. 2. Security department administration and management. 3. Standard computer programs for word processing, and databases.
Ability to: 1. Manage available resources in a timely and effective manner under emergency conditions. 2. Observe and report facts / information accurately. Prepare accurate written reports. 3. Understand and interpret School of Dentistry general regulations and policies. 4. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Convert verbal policy statements into written instructions. 5. Provide security information briefings to designated faculty and staff. 6. Conduct investigations, interviews, and use appropriate auditing techniques. 7. Provide training, assistance, and guidance to department officers; issue instructions and be responsible for the results.
Experience: 1. Four or more years increased responsibility as a security officer, public safety, or reserve police officer. 2. Two years of experience in a supervisory position.
Education: 1. High school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses: 1. California guard permit. 2. Mace and baton certification. 3. California weapon permit (or within 6 months of hire) 4. 832 POST Training (or within 1 year of hire) 5. Current California driver license. 6. Current CPR License.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to: 1. Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the public. 2. Assist with the implementation of security regulations and policies.
Knowledge of: 1. Criminal law, laws of arrest, search and seizure desirable.
Education: 1. College courses in security, criminal justice, public safety, computer skills, and management courses desirable.
