Job Summary/Basic Function: Job Summary: The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid is looking for a motivated and dedicated individual who is committed to providing excellent customer service to students and families. The Senior Financial Aid Specialist coordinates and assists with administering financial aid programs and other key functions within the financial aid office. This position provides assistance to students on financial aid eligibility requirements and ensures that financial aid programs adhere to University, State, and Federal guidelines.
Primary Duties - May include, but not limited to the following:
Maintains awareness of current trends and legislative activity having financial aid impact.
Downloads student financial aid information from various sources in order to run successful financial aid programs.
Participates in the development and implementation of data management systems and procedures, as appropriate.
Oversees the collection, management, and reporting of data in accordance with the federal and state regulations.
Implements, coordinates, and oversees one or more specific financial aid programs as assigned.
Reviews financial aid recipients' academic performance for satisfactory progress; takes necessary action if progress is not being met, and reviews appeals.
Resolves awards issues by utilizing financial aid management system to analyze applications.
Provides counsel regarding available financial aid opportunities, eligibility requirements, and the application process to students and families.
Reviews and assesses eligibility of applications for financial aid; exercises professional judgment to determine whether adjustments should be made.
Ensures awards are appropriately disbursed and credited to students' accounts. Resolves financial aid issues and serves as liaison between students and lenders, and guarantee agencies.
Provides information, in-person and on the telephone, to students, prospective students, and families regarding student financial aid.
Trains and serves as a resource to other staff and/or students, as appropriate; may also supervise student employees or staff.
Provides assistance with audits, attends student orientations, makes presentations, and assists students and parents as needed.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Strict adherence to established NCAA, Southland Conference, Lamar University and Texas State University System rules and regulations. A violation of these rules and regulations can lead to disciplinary action including termination.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree or equivalent education and experience in a financial environment Experience in a financial environment Microsoft Office experience in Word, Excel, and Outlook
Demonstrated Ability: Excellent customer service and superb interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail,and accuracy. A team player who can multi-task. Ability to work well under pressure with deadlines.
