UC Davis Health is in search of a Contract Assistant Controller for a period of 24 months. This position serves as Assistant Controller for UC Davis Health, comprising the Medical Center hospital and clinics and the Primary Care Network. This position will be responsible for all month end activity, all general ledger transactions, evaluating accounting transactions and documenting the appropriate accounting treatment and supervising a team of six team members. The Assistant Controller will lead, and is fully responsible for the monthly fiscal closing process for the Medical Center. Reviews monthly schedules and reconciliations, providing written explanations and documentation, resolves all discrepancies and issues for all accounts. Approve various General Ledger document types. Create the monthly and annual close calendar, showing the interdependencies. Create the annual close checklist and memo to send to departments.This individual will act as Chart Manager for the General Ledger, including setting up accounts and maintaining the overall structure and integrity of the general ledger. The Assistant Controller will also perform technical analysis within tight deadlines by gathering, analyzing, interpreting and summarizing relevant financial data from complex systems (e.g., financial, payroll, revenue, decision support, general ledger, budget) and integrating data from multiple systems into meaningful information. Identifies and proposes solutions, and assists in making recommended decisions. Prepare and distribute accurate, concise, well-organized, and timely financial reports, financial charts, forecasts and budget vs. actual variance analysis and other reports as neededREQUIRED 'Experience with financial systems, including general ledgers, and budgetary systems'Advanced knowledge in accounting and financial management principles, theory and practice including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.'Proven ability to research and document unusual accounting transactions, including references to citations'Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including formatting, Vlookups, IFs, Sumifs, and Pivot Tables. 'Experience in summarizing, analyzing and accurately reporting on large volumes of data using multiple systems in a timely manner.'Experience in taking a lead in assigned projects, seeing project through from beginning to end with little or no direction to a successful conclusion.
