Job Posting: The Coding Supervisor is responsible for physician coding audits and education as well as day to day coding functions in support of Physician Billing Services billing and collection activities. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Monitors Coding work queues within EPIC billing system to ensure timely processing.
Works with Coding Manager to ensure that EPIC work is being assigned appropriately.
Plans, develops and implements coding projects.
Conducts, tracks, and reports random Provider and Coder audits related to compliance, and quality coding.
Creates and supports a work environment that promotes employee satisfaction.
Supervises key personnel activities, including the preparation of employee performance reviews; job interviewing and hiring; determination of raises, promotions, transfers, and terminations. Reviews items with management prior to talking with subordinates.
Supervises daily activities, including determining specific employee work assignments; reviewing employee activities for completeness, accuracy, and effectiveness
Develops implements, and updates policy and procedures of the coding department.
Develops, implements, and evaluates compliance quality control measures.
Performs external (client) physician audits.
Establishes department workflow process to ensure timely processing of charts.
Interacts with the physicians and mid-level providers related to proper effective documentation, that meets coding guidelines and reflects the care provided.
Keeps current and efficient coding skill by coding charts.
Keeps self-aware of changes related to coding rules and regulations.
Performs other relevant job duties as assigned.
Plans, develops, implements and evaluates ongoing education programs for Providers and Staff.
Resolves payer specific denials, medical necessity issues and other issues.
Through EOB analysis, establishes payer specific coding requirements that enhance cash flow
Works as a liaison with the facility to ensure complete accurate charts are received for coding in a timely fashion.
Works closely with the Coding Manager
Ensures HIPAA guidelines are respected by safeguarding protected health information in the capacity of the positions duties and responsibilities.
Pairs CPT/ICD9/ICD10 codes for accurate billing and maximum reimbursement.
Participates in audit or work showing strengths and improvements needed. Audit will be used as a measurement for employee's evaluation.
Participates in educational training to stay current with coding requirements.
Processes and maintains any other job task(s) or files necessary for coding.
Refers to and maintains Policy and Procedural Manual to ensure each job transaction is processed with the utmost efficiency and speed as set by Cedars-Sinai.
Reliable and punctual by maintaining a good attendance record and arriving at work and returning from lunch and breaks on time.
Reports any wrong doing to appropriate person(s) as set by Cedars-Sinai grievance policy.
Team player being supportive of Cedars-Sinai's goals and policies.
Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university required. Masters' degree preferred.
At least five (5) or more years multi-specialty coding experience, two (2) years management experience in a medical group or large physician practice and Certified Professional Coder certification
Extensive knowledge of procedural coding in a multi-specialty medical group and/or academic environment, or equivalent education and experience
Extensive knowledge of State and Federal government laws and regulations and third-party payer guidelines, including PATH and E/M documentation guidelines
Extensive knowledge of professional billing and collection requirements
Knowledge of procedures and data flow in a health care organization; experience with physician billing preferred
Understanding of Windows based applications i.e. Word, Excel and Outlook
Strong Communication Skills
Successfully complete training on required modules within the EPIC system
Work independently with little or no supervision, if necessary
Handles all work in a professional and confidential manner
Produce quality work within expected standards of department
Manage time and workload efficiently
Recognize when assistance is needed and can be an effective team player

Hours working will require remaining in a stationary position during entire shift. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to push and pull up to 25 lbs. Off-site meetings with physicians and support staff and office based. Must be able to perform critical work under deadlines Ability to work in a changing environment and handle multiple tasks
