OB/Unit Secretary C.N.A: Full-Time Days
The Obstetrical Technician/Unit Secretary/Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible to the Family Birth Place Unit to fulfill the specific role designated to her by the Charge Nurse. The Obstetrical technician/Unit Secretary/Certified Nursing Assistant needs to be versatile, efficient and effective in maintaining competent care delivery in accordance with the philosophy and mission of Ogden Regional Medical Center. Patient care services are facilitated, delivered in collaboration with the Unit Charge Nurse.
Keep all areas of Family Birth Place and C-section areas fully stocked, including supplies, linens, cleaning equipment, chart materials, etc.
Cleans instruments after use and puts in proper area for pick-up.
Communicates with related departments as necessary, regarding need for supplies and equipment.
Puts away all ordered supplies including office supplies.
Checks instrument dates, Nursery crash board, makes Mother & Baby charts, Baby assessment packs and/or admit gift packs.
Stocks fetal heart monitors according to checklist.
Assists visitors, families, patients, physicians and others by answering questions, delivering messages and giving information within scope of position.
Restocks procedure carts and resuscitation boxes.
Transports specimens to correct departments as needed.
Meal times - assists in passing and picking up of patient trays.
Notify nurses of patient requests on the pager system ASAP.
Provides tours of Family Birth Place to guests on request.
Admission of patients including but not limited to Wt., UA, VS's, room orientation and documents in the CPCS System.
Works under the direction of the RN.
Adheres to the HCA Code of Conduct.
Attends annual Code of Conduct training.
Admits patient on central Monitor
Cares for patients' personal effects.
Adjusts bed, side rails and call lights for convenience and safety.
Assists patient positioning or transfer at nurse's request.
Answers call lights and uses Pager system effectively and responds to patient requests.
Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients and visitors, while assuring confidentiality of patient information.
Assists staff members in treatment procedures, I&O's, empties Foleys, etc and documents in CPCS System.
Maintains a clean and safe environment by reporting equipment that is out of order, possible health hazards and other problems to the necessary personnel.
Gets patients in and out of bed, assists to restroom and ambulates as needed.
When requested performs perineal care, administers enemas and assists patients in shower or Jacuzzi.
Prepares and assists with physical examinations, as directed.
Follows prescribed isolation techniques.
Has basic knowledge of procedures performed on unit.
Assists with newborn care, feeds, baths (exception initial bath), diaper change and documents in the CPCS System.
Assists with basic breastfeeding as directed by the nurse.
Inquires from patients regarding complimentary meals and orders.
Sets up for purposed procedure in designated delivery area, checking and providing all necessary equipment and supplies. Does 5-minute scrub.
Counts instrument, sutures and sponges with circulating RN.
Assists surgeons with aseptic attire.
Trained to maintain aseptic conditions while assisting with operational procedures, anticipate MD's needs, hand instruments in a timely manner.
Removes used equipment from delivery area, places dirty instruments in proper receptacle, calls housekeeping to clean room.
Cleans patient rooms/ C-Section room if housekeeping is unavailable.
Restocks and sets up C-Section and Delivery rooms.
Calls admitting with patient information.
Labels with patient sticker and fills necessary forms for mother and newborn charts.
Calls for routine lab work and obtain results.
Provides main care provider records, ink pad, arm band, baby ID bands, cord blood stickers, patient information sheet and nurse's notes and anesthesia forms.
Knows procedures in assembling and disassembling mother and baby charts properly.
Obtains computer lab results and post on charts.
Is aware of necessary paper work regarding false labor, pre-op lab work and C-sections.
Notes all doctors' orders.
Obtains records and files all new prenatals received.
Pulls all necessary information for inductions for following day.
Records all entrees in proper log book.
Enters unit charges on computer daily and prints up daily charges for unit coordinator.
On the 1 st of each month, completes monthly census and distributes to designated areas.
Prints OB/Peds Rounds reports 0700.
Current certification as a C.N.A. with the State of Utah required.
Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
