Our Clinical Engineering department has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Computer Specialist. The individual in this role is responsible for evaluating, designing, implementing, and maintaining network and patient data security plans ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards for all UWMC Medical Equipment and systems supported by the Clinical Engineering department. This individual will also act as Systems Administrator for supported systems and the departmental Computerized Maintenance Management System, (CMMS), used to manage the ongoing maintenance and repair operations of the department. In this role as the department's IT and network security expert, they will be expected to be a technical resource for department management and technicians. Reporting to the Director of Clinical Engineering, this position is critical to ensuring our medical equipment and patient data are safe and secure.
Evaluate new medical equipment or systems for network and data security compliance issues.
Review previously evaluated medical equipment or system network and data security compliance.
Mitigate identified network and data security compliance issues.
Manage external VPN's and firewall appliances. Consult with customers and staff. Network and data security related projects.
Administer medical equipment systems or departmental systems.
and managing all existing CE vendor remote access VLANs
Coordinating the technical aspects of installing, maintaining, and upgrading combined local area and wide area medical equipment networks including network and data security in support of medical equipment systems.
Developing and implementing new and unique methods of ensuring data integrity of critical medical systems which cannot be backed-up using standard UW Medicine IT methods.
Consulting with owners of medical equipment, Physicians, Staff, and vendors regarding potential upgrades or purchases of medical equipment that may require network interfaces.
Act as the IT related liaison between UWMC Clinical Engineering, UW Medicine IT, and Medical Equipment Vendors.
Administer Medical Equipment systems on behalf of departmental customers.
Maintaining the department's Computerized Maintenance Management System, (database), including modifying and/or creating user interface screens, reports, and queries as well as ad-hoc troubleshooting of system and user problems.
Manage the existing fleet of network firewall appliances and devices and work to replace them with Enterprise level solutions.
Develop a process and criteria for evaluating new equipment or systems for network security and security compliance issues.
Evaluate new equipment or systems for network security and security compliance issues and then create new and unique solutions to the identified compliance issues that are compatible with clinical operations.
Develop a plan for retroactively evaluating existing equipment or systems for network security and security compliance issues including mitigating identified issues as they are identified.

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent four years network, technical or Software Engineer related experience Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement
Experience with vulnerability scanning systems, datacenter network switches, hardware load balancers, or monitoring and notification systems a plus.
Working knowledge of network analysis tools desirable.
Experience in the support of production mission critical systems and applications.
Previous experience designing and modifying MS Access and/or SQL queries and reports preferred.
Experience working with medical equipment as a Biomedical Equipment Technician a plus.
Application development or system administration experience in Unix, Linux, and Windows 2008 or later environments.
