Student Health Services (SHS) provides primary medical care, including urgent care and support services such as laboratory, pharmacy, and x-ray to over 30,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. SHS staff consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, pharmacists, x-ray technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistants, optometrists, medical assistants, health educators, administrative and other healthcare professionals.
The Quality Improvement, Risk Management, Compliance and Safety Manager oversees implementation and monitoring of adherence to standards mandated by UCSD Health Sciences related to quality improvement. In conjunction with the SHS Director of Medical Services and QI Chair, plans and maintains a comprehensive and systematic approach to monitor, evaluate and assure provision of quality of health care services at SHS. Assures an effective Risk Management Program including strategies to reduce risk and emphasize early detection of potential quality and safety issues for patients, staff and the program at SHS. Coordinates with accrediting agency, Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), to ensure compliance with agency standards. Leads preparation for accreditation site visits. Ensures FERPA and HIPAA compliance as applicable. Coordinates with the SHS Emergency Preparedness Committee to include updating emergency procedures, coordination of emergency drills and ensuring adequate stockpile of supplies in the event of a building, campus or community emergency. Provides effective leadership, coordination and training of medical records staff and organization in all departmental aspects of medical records management, release of information and audit compliance. Responsible for the distribution and monitoring of workflow and coordination of assignments for all medical records staff. Ensures adherence to all medical record policies and procedures and maintenance of quality control. Responsible for inventory and maintenance of department. Compiles data for reports and prepares standard forms and workflows. Serves as a member of the SHS Management Team.
Licensed clinical health or allied health professional, or advanced degree in public health or other health-related field.
Prior experience and skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, SPSS or SAS for advanced reports.
Supervisory skills: 1. Demonstrated experience and skill to routinely monitor production and quality of work being produced by staff and set performance standards, observing behavior, providing objective feedback, counseling, and implementing corrective action as needed to mediate disputes or otherwise help to resolve conflicts and to provide effective leadership/coaching/mentoring. 2. Demonstrated experience and skill to assess staff capabilities and workloads and redistribute when necessary. 3. Demonstrated experience and skill to teach/train staff in all aspects of job duties/responsibilities.
Demonstrated experience interpreting complex policies, procedures, and regulatory information and developing comprehensive policies, procedures, tools, guidelines and forms.
Exceptional communication skills and ability to formulate and present all materials (written and oral) in a clear, concise, logical and comprehensive fashion.
Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and State privacy and legal requirements, including HCQIA, HIPAA and FERPA including ability to use independent judgment to manage and impart confidential information; ability to play a leadership role in protecting patient privacy.
Demonstrated ability to develop, organize, plan and perform work with attention to detail.
Knowledge of medical terminology and regulations regarding patient's medical information and privacy. Experience working in an academic and/or patient care setting.
Demonstrated experience and an in-depth understanding of an ambulatory accreditation process, certification and regulations.
Experience using medical practice management and electronic medical record applications and relational databases to retrieve data.
Working knowledge of current medical practice standards, clinical skills, operations and procedures.
Database management skills including querying, reporting, and document generation.
