The IGM Genomics Center at the University of California, San Diego, is a core research facility overseen by the Institute for Genomic Medicine. IGM Genomics Center provides a variety of services, including sequencing, library preparation and sequencing on Illumina's HiSeq4000, HiSeq2500 and MiSeq platforms as well as on the PacBio RS II Sequencing System. The mission of the IGM Genomics Center is to provide UCSD researchers, as well as researchers in the greater UC community, high quality standard, cutting-edge, and custom genomics services as well as consultation on experimental design and training/education about genomic methods.
Under general supervision, the incumbent will independently organize, plan, and execute sequencing efforts in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary high throughput production team. The incumbent will be expected to engage in difficult and complex projects in collaboration with the Director, making important original contributions pertaining to laboratory experimental procedures, and will contribute original ideas of major methodological significance, both by reference to the general body of scientific knowledge and by application of trial and error methods.
Advanced theoretical knowledge or Bachelor's Degree in molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry, including relevant laboratory methods and sterile technique and/or equivalent education or experience.
Strong demonstrated genomic research techniques including ability to keep clear and accurate records and skill to update and maintain computerized relational databases. Making important original contributions pertaining to laboratory experimental procedures.
Skill with molecular biology and DNA Sequencing techniques.
Strong demonstrated knowledge and experience with molecular biology protocols/techniques, including PCR amplification, quantitative PCR, DNA modifying enzymes, and other relevant molecular biology techniques.
Demonstrated successful, positive interpersonal and oral and written communication skills using tact, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility with diverse personalities and situations. Skill to interact effectively with faculty, academicians, students, and staff including those of diverse ethnicity, culture, and foreign nationals. Skills to present information clearly and concisely.
Strong demonstrated experience with Next Gen sequencing and Genotyping.
Expertise in establishing, writing and training of Standard Operating Procedures.
Experience working in a high-throughput Genomics Laboratory.
