Positions in this function contact customers to determine reason for payment delinquency, negotiate and advise on collection of overdue bills and take appropriate action to recover overdue payments. Handling of unresolved inquiries / issues, and responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and managing organization policies on collection practices. May work with outside legal counsel and / or outside agencies in more complex collection cases.Primary Responsibilities:Follow assigned payer (third party payers) guidelines when processing an appeal, reopening or written inquiryKeep up with assigned third party payer plan coverage and changesProperly document accountsReview and recommend write off (adjustments) of accountsMaintain Issue logResponsible for reporting problems and error to management in an effective and efficient mannerAttend and participates in departmental staff meetingsMaintain productivity standards as set by managementMaintain quality standards as set by managementOther duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:High School Diploma or GED1+ years of medical billing experience PC skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word (creating and editing documents), Microsoft Excel (creating and editing spreadsheets), and Microsoft Outlook (email, and calendar)Thorough understanding of third party payers Preferred Qualifications:Background in a medical / healthcare settingDirect healthcare data collection experienceSoft Skills:Excellent communication skillsExcellent attention to detailGood organizational skillsStrong analytical and trouble-shooting skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to work overtime as needed, based on department needs Careers with OptumInsight.
